Meet RESPECT Actor Educator: Sabrina

What is your favorite RESPECT educational play?

My favorite play is Stop and Think. I love how excited the kids get, and it’s cool to watch them practice making better choices in real time.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is probably the afterschool programs, there’s something very rewarding about having a consistent  groups of kids that we get to work with weekly on various difficult topics, yet who always seem happy to see us.

What is the best part of your interactions at RESPECT programs?

My absolute favorite part of the interactions at our programs are the kids who come up to us after the whole show is over to say “thanks for coming.” Some just want a quick high five, while others want to ask questions they might have been too shy to ask in front of the whole crowd. That moment of realizing how much they really care, and are interested, is always the perfect ending.

What is something that you’ve learned by being part of RESPECT?

Something I’ve learned from being here at RESPECT is just how many resources there are here in the Omaha area to help with the needs of educating and protecting our youth. From the amazing guest speakers we’ve had, to our trainings and workshops at places like the Jewish Community Center, and Project Harmony, there was a satisfying feeling of being properly prepared for any difficult topics or situations we may run into with the kids, as well as a humbling realization that my world was much smaller than it should have been, for not seeing the scale of all these organizations working to create such a web of safety. I’m truly glad every time I’m exposed to an opportunity to be educated myself.
