Meet RESPECT Co-Artistic Director: Hailey Vernon

What is your favorite RESPECT educational play?

My favorite RESPECT play is Stop and Think! I love how fast paced and high energy the show is. The kids always have so much fun interacting with Jackie, Rylyn, and Alex.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is getting to be creative on a daily basis. I love being able to play fun characters like Dr. Smartypants and perfecting embodying a 10 year old super scientist . From a director’s standpoint I like to think about how each character interacts with one another and how to convey that on stage. On an educational level I love coming up with fun ways to engage our students into our lesson plans.

What is the best part of your interactions at RESPECT programs?

The best part of my interactions at RESPECT is getting to instill confidence in kids of all ages in a fun creative way. It’s amazing to watch the students grow over the course of just a few weeks.

What is something that you’ve learned by being part of RESPECT?

Something I’ve learned by being a part of RESPECT is that social emotional learning is so incredibly important for any child at any grade level. The work we are doing with students with understanding and coping with big emotions is so crucial and not a lot of children get to practice these skills. It’s very eye opening.
