Hold That Thought at Belvedere Elementary

RESPECT actor-educators worked hand in hand with Belvedere Elementary’s school counselor to develop a customized eight-week installment of Hold That Thought, a multi-session program designed with Dr. Patricia Newman to develop impulse control and social skills.  At the end of the sessions, participants in Hold That Thought assisted RESPECT’s actor-educators in leading interactive workshops for the rest of the students in the school.  During the final workshop, kids in the audience could audibly be heard saying to their friends, “this is really cool!”

Throughout the eight week small group sessions, 3rd – 5th grade students took part in role-play and theatre activities to learn about and practice social skills.  Teachers expressed how impressed they were with the students’ participation and how some students who are often challenging or disruptive in class became calmer and engaged in activities.
